The Perfect Location to Disconnect and Reconnect

Posted on: October 1st, 2014

Drew and Margit McNaughton have created the perfect place for you to disconnect to reconnect. They’ve set up Woodland West as a private facility where you can unwind in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Guests can camp, stay in the Cabin or Treehouse, or rent the 1200 square foot Firseside Room with adjoining 800 sq ft commercial kitchen and entrance area. Woodland West is a great venue for country wedding receptions, family reunions and corporate retreats. It’s conveniently located about an hour southwest of Calgary.

Drew and Margit

Some of the additional advantages of the Woodland West facilities include catering for meals, breaks, and bar services, yoga stretch breaks from a certified instructor, and hikes on the property or into Kananaskis Country. Additionally, the produce served is grown on the property or locally sourced.

Enjoy Stunning Fall Landscapes in the Mountains

Posted on: September 15th, 2014

Old man winter may have stopped by for a quick hello earlier than expected this year, but there will still be many grand days to enjoy the mountains before the ski season is upon us.  September and October can be the best months to head to the hills.  The kids are back in school so there is lots of elbow room, no longer any need to swat mosquitoes, the landscapes are stunning – especially the larch trees as they turn golden, and the snow in the valleys has already melted, and the sun is warm & invigorating.  Now is the time to go for a hike, raft tour, horseback ride, or simply stretch.  In this picture, Sandy Pearson a Yoga instructor based in Turner Valley, strikes a pose in the Sheep River Provincial Park, with the glistening mountain peaks of Kananaskis Country in the background.

Posted on: July 25th, 2014

One of our previous photo contest winners has provided an update about how much he enjoyed his prize! In the spring of 2013 James Anderson of Calgary Alberta won one of our prizes in the Experience the Mountain Parks “RECESS IS BACK” 2012 Photo Contest. He won the Grand Prize in the Flowers & Wildlife Category.

  • 2 night stay at The Banff Aspen Lodge
  • 4 tickets for the Sulphur Mountain Gondola and the Banff Lake Cruise provided by Brewster Attractions
  • $50 Gift Certificate for The Old Spaghetti Factory
  • Set of 3 guide books authored by Graeme Pole
  • Guided Hike with Graeme Pole (priceless)
  • 20 min Family Trail Ride with Timberline Tours
  • Hiking Boots for a family of 4 provided by Keen Canada – approx. retail value $800

James especially enjoyed the hiking boots. He wrote to us saying, “I attached a couple of images of my wife and I on a hike in Glacier National Park which show off a pair of the boots we received from Keen taking on the rugged terrain…the boots worked out really well as we happen to be hiking during the first snowfall of the year and kept our toes comfy warm 🙂 ”

Be sure to check out the 2014 Experience the Mountain Parks Photo Contest and the 2014 Experience the Cowboy Trail Photo Contest for the opportunity to win some fabulous prizes of your own!
